Privacy policy

Old Mate Pet Co. (ABN 71 959 047 558) sells gear for older dogs through oldmatepetco.com.au. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and how you can access or correct it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

What we collect

Order details: your name, email, phone number, delivery and billing address, what you bought, and your order history.
Payment details: card payments are processed by Shopify Payments. We see the payment status and the last four digits of your card, never the full card number.
Messages: anything you send us by email or through the contact form.
Newsletter: your email address, if you sign up.
Browsing data: your device, browser, IP address, and the pages and products you view, collected through cookies and similar technology.

Why we collect it

To take payment for, fulfil and deliver your order, and to send you order and delivery updates.
To answer your questions and handle returns, refunds and warranty claims.
To send you our newsletter, if you asked for it.
To show our ads to people likely to be interested, and to measure whether they work.
To prevent fraud, keep the store secure, and meet our legal obligations.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information. We share only what each party needs to do its job:

Our suppliers, who pack and post your order: Dropshipzone (Australia) and CJdropshipping (China). They receive your name, delivery address, phone number and the items ordered.
Couriers and postal services that carry your parcel, in China and Australia.
Shopify, which hosts our store, processes payments and sends our emails.
Meta (Facebook and Instagram), through the Meta pixel on our site, which records the pages you visit and purchases you make so we can measure and target our ads.
Authorities, if the law requires it.

Information sent overseas

Because our products ship from overseas, your delivery details go to our fulfilment partner and couriers in China. Shopify and Meta may store and process information in the United States, Canada, Ireland and other countries where they operate. We use these providers only for the purposes above.

Cookies and ads

We and our providers use cookies to keep your cart working, understand how the store is used, and measure our ads. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the store still works, though your cart may not be remembered. You can change how Meta uses your information for ads in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings.

Marketing emails

We only send marketing emails if you've signed up. Every one has an unsubscribe link. Order and delivery emails aren't marketing, so they keep coming while you have an order with us.

How we keep it and for how long

Your information is stored in Shopify's systems, protected by encryption and access controls. We keep order records for as long as we need them for tax and accounting (generally seven years), and delete or de-identify information we no longer need.

Accessing or correcting your information

You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we don't need to keep it. Email hello@oldmatepetco.com.au. We'll confirm who you are, then respond within 30 days.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, email us first and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
